Compatibility Notes:

Important note about machines with Pascal System 1 CPU boards, PI-1 or PI-1 X4: If you have a machine with one of these replacement CPU boards, Please E-mail Pascal before installing our Display Kit, some older Boards (PI-1 and PI-1 X4 before version 2.2) will need an upgrade that Pascal can provide for free, or you can upgrade the board yourself if you have soldering tools. Here are the instructions: PI-1 X4 Upgrade
or see his website for contact information www.flippp.fr

Important note about machines with Ni-Wumpf System 80 CPU boards: If you have a machine with a System 80 Ni-Wumpf replacement CPU board (before serial number 378), you will need to do an upgrade to the FPGA code. Their code has been updated to correct a ghost display problem on the left most digit.
There are several ways to upgrade your board.
1. Do it yourself, you will need a computer and a serial cable.
2. Send it back to Ni-Wumpf for upgrade.

General Notes about Display Colors
System 1 Machines come with a blue tint filter on the backglass, so we have made this kit with blue displays. System 80 Machines have either a blue or
green filter on the backglass. The original fluorescent glass tubes were a greenish-blue color. The filter helps soften and define the colors. We have made the kits to correspond to the original colors. But if you wish, you can choose to use a green display kit. Machines like Hulk may have more appeal with the green displays as opposed to blue, the choice is yours. Just let us know. And yes, the green displays look green even with the blue filter on the backglass.)
Another product (not ours) that is available are replacement filters for the backglass, if your filter is chipped or cracking, they can be replaced. Take a look at www.pinballpal.com for more information.

The latest in LED technology!!!

Design Information

These boards are designed to replace existing Gottlieb displays. We tried to design a direct drop-in replacement for the displays, but the blue LEDs that we settled on require a higher voltage to operate than the standard LEDs displays. So the displays must be replaced as a set, it is not possible to mix the fluorescent and LED displays in the machine. Part of the reason the new displays require a higher voltage is that they use 2 LEDs per segment instead of one LED per segment. In addition, they are driven by the control board in a scanned matrix format, the scans (or flashes) are executed at a high rate so that your eyes don't notice it.
After reviewing the original design, we were able to design a solution that does not call for any alterations to the original game. This kit does not require any soldering, cutting of wires, or modifying of any harnesses, so if for some reason you wish to re-install the old displays, you can do it without any problems. The installation of the new LED displays takes about 20 minutes.
Our kits contain all the parts you will need to install them on a System 1 or System 80 Gottlieb Pinball Machine. Our kit also includes an adjustable brightness control so that you can set the LED's to your viewing pleasure.

Compatibility; Our replacement displays kits are compatible with the original Gottlieb Main Control Board, the Ni-Wumpf replacement CPU boards, and with the Pascal PI-1 and PI-1 X4 replacement CPU boards. More information on these can be found at www.ni-wumpf.com or pascalpi1@aol.com or their website at www.flippp.fr also info here; www.pinball.ch/replay/pascal-pi-1.html

Troubleshooting Existing Fluorescent (Tube) Displays

Our new displays will not correct any pre-existing problems that you may be having with your machine, so we suggest that you make sure your machine is working properly before replacing the displays. There are several symptoms particular to these displays and fixes for each one of them. Refer to the chart below and use it as a quick reference for troubleshooting problems. An excellent web site that describes problems in great detail is www.PinballHQ.com. In addition, here are the links to System 1 machines and System 80 machines regarding troubleshooting displays.

IMPORTANT WARNING...never remove the connector at the displays or control boards without first turning the machine OFF.  You will probably damage the control board!
